A new resource offering teenagers and their parents information on post-GCSE and A-level options has been launched, those with jobs in education may be interested to hear.

An offshoot of the Directgov website, What's Next will cover topics including further and higher education, training, financial support and practical advice for job-seeking.

Tony Singleton, chief operating officer at the government information site, said: "All parents want to ensure their children get the best start to their independent, adult lives.

"In order to help parents feel informed, so that in turn their children can make confident decisions about their futures, parents need to understand all the options that are available."

Launched over the weekend, a television and radio campaign voiced by Mighty Boosh star Julian Barratt, will help publicise the site.

The portal's section for sixth-form leavers includes a list of questions most commonly asked by students who have just received their exam results.

It includes advice on clearing, re-sits, how to accept an offer from a university and ideas for gap years.
