Kingston parents want two more schools

Parents of schoolchildren in Kingston have said they support plans to build two new primary schools in the area, the Kingston Guardian has reported.

The survey quizzed more than 1,200 people, the majority of which want the schools constructed in Surbiton, Maldens and Coombe.

However, not everyone is in favour of the developments.

"It was clear that many people were dissatisfied with the consultation and wanted to see a much fuller discussion on the issue of primary school expansion," Richmond Park MP Susan Kramer told the paper.

Ms Kramer says the poll revealed there is also strong support for a proposal to build a new school for the north Kingston area.

The minister says the council "must listen to the views of parents".

Under the Building Schools for the Future programme every secondary school will either be rebuilt or improved.

As part of the scheme, each local authority in England should have received enough money by 2011 for work to have started on its most run down school, says the government.ADNFCR-2164-ID-19250554-ADNFCR
