Duffield pupils design playground

Pupils in their final year at a Derbyshire school have helped to design a new playground for future students to enjoy.

The year-six children from Meadows School worked with local parent and architect Alison McDermott on the new £9,000 design, reports the Derby Telegraph

Headteacher Chris Watkins told the paper: "The old playground had very little apparatus or markings.

"The new one is such a contrast, with mini-stages, a story-telling chair, basketball posts and markings for games."

One member of the primary school's staff Faye Lemmings, remove comma added that the project offered pupils the chance to put into practice the planning and research skills they had learnt in their years at Meadows.

According to the paper, funding came from the school and its Parent, Teacher and Friends Association which raised £3,000 through fairs and raffles.

Earlier this month saw primary school pupils in Oxford helping to name a new housing development.

After taking part in workshops about the local area's history and wildlife, the children selected Meadow Gardens as the housing scheme's new name, reports local news site 24dash.com
