Schools in the Grimsby and Cleethorpes areas have helped tidy their local areas and will later plant flowers.

The Community in Bloom drive saw pupils from William Barcroft School and Strand Street School clear areas of old plants and cut back overgrown shrubs, thisisgrimsby.co.uk has reported.

Organiser Tony Burman, senior warden with the Neighbourhood Safety Scheme, said: "The enthusiasm of the children is brilliant. It is marvelous".

The children from William Barcroft tidied a nearby roundabout island. Bethany Tuplin, 11, said they hoped to make the school look more colourful "and attract more people to the area".

Pupils of Strand Street School improved a nearby park by clearing away graffiti and tidying overgrown trees.

Paige Newby, nine, said: "We want more parks. We want less graffiti and more flowers."
