Sandbach High School and Sixth Form in Staffordshire has been awarded an Artsmark Gold Award from Arts Council England.

The accolade is in recognition of the school's achievements in arts education and is only awarded when a school dedicates more than ten per cent of its time to the arts, reports thisisstaffordshire.co.uk.

According to the arts Council, by gaining such an award schools show their "commitment to the wider development of young people and teachers and to raising the profile of the arts in the school and local community".

The Middlewich Road school's head teacher John Leigh says its success is down the ability of its students to work with diverse and challenging visitors "as well as being encouraged to develop their own creative skills both here in school and during extra-curricular trips and activities".

Teaching assistants can specialise in arts subjects and also find themselves involved in out of school events.ADNFCR-2164-ID-19205689-ADNFCR
