Primary school helps start £50m investment programme

Archibald Primary School has helped start a £50 million redevelopment scheme set to benefit several schools in the Middlesbrough area.

With help from the head of the school's governors, Father Flyn Holland, children dug the first foundations of the council's Primary Strategy for Change programme, Gazettelive.co.uk has reported.

The initiative will "make a major improvement to the facilities at the school and that in turn will be a huge asset for the local community", said Father Glynn.

Once completed, teaching assistants, teachers and pupils will be able to enjoy meals in a new dining room and make the most of an all-weather sports pitch.

Middlesbrough council's executive member for children Councillor Mike Carr noted that both constructions will help support the town's new health initiative.

The headmaster is also happy: "The whole school is really pleased with the design of the new school wing which complements the architecture of the existing school."

As part of the Primary Strategy for Change scheme, the government has committed £1.9 billion to help schools improve their facilities.
