Bamburgh School in South Shields has received an overall good report from Ofsted inspectors, it has been reported.

The school, which provides for children with special needs, was praised by the inspectors and its personal development and wellbeing focus was considered to be outstanding, the report concluded.

According to the Shileds Gazette, the school's pupils were all rewarded for the good marks from Ofsted with ice cream.

"We are delighted Ofsted has recognised the dedication, hard work and expertise of our highly-trained staff and governors in meeting the very wide range and often complex special educational needs of our pupils," headteacher Lynn McKellar told the newspaper.

"In the debrief meeting after the inspection, the inspector said the report was richly deserved," she added.

Re-launched in 2007, Ofsted inspects facilities and the provision of education and training for learners of all ages.

According to the organisation's website, its aims include raising aspirations and contributing to the long-term achievement of ambitious standards and better life chances for learners.
