'Streatham kids try for walking bus world record'

Children, parents and teachers from St Andrew's Roman Catholic primary school in Polworth Road have helped attempt a world record, the Streatham Guardian reports.

The pupils joined together to form a so-called 'walking bus' and journeyed to school and around the nearby area.

As part of the initiative, children advised drivers to slow down when passing schools and waved banners.

"People slowing down around schools can save lives and if people walk more it's better for the environment," one of the school's pupil road safety officers noted.

In similar activities this week, organised by sustainable transport charity Sustrans, children cycled to school as part of Bike It, an initiative to get children cycling to school, and sat down for free breakfast once they had arrived.

Pupils of St Paul's primary school in Brighton, with help from teaching assistants and staff, decorated their bikes in a summer theme, had them checked by cycle mechanic Dr Bike and then tucked into their well-deserved food.
