Threshfield school teaching assistant makes final

Amanda Taylor, a teaching assistant from Threshfield primary school, North Yorkshire, has made it to the Teaching Awards finals.

Nominated for her hard work and dedication to the school's children, Amanda will attend the north of England finals in Sheffield on June 18th.

"Amanda is tremendously hard working," says Pam Hall, a senior teacher and colleague at Threshfield.

Ms Hall told the Yorkshire Dales Country News that as a special needs teacher Ms Taylor "puts in time above and beyond the call of duty".

Anne Perry, chair of governors at Hambleton Church of England primary in Selby, is the second entrant from the county.

Ms Perry has been nominated for Governor of the Year and along with Ms Taylor, who is up for Teaching Assistant of the Year, the pair could go on to the UK finals in London, scheduled for October.

Steve Munby, chief executive of the National College for School Leadership, said: " [Teaching] it's a challenging job and these award-winners show us how rewarding it can be and give a shining example to the next generation of school leaders."
