Kids roll up for bike breakfast

Children from St Mary Redcliffe Primary School enjoyed a bike breakfast after cycling to school.

More than 100 children tucked in to bacon, sausage or veggie sausage sandwiches, croissants and juice after getting on their bikes as part of a new initiative, thisisbristol.co.uk has reported.

Once safely at school children were entered for a prize draw and had their bikes checked by cycle therapist Greg Foster.

Bristol city council's school travel plan team provided leaflets and information on local cycle paths and safe routes to school.

The school hopes to promote a healthy lifestyle and encourage children to cycle safely.

"Our bike breakfast was a fantastic community event. The playground was packed with families," commented headteacher Emma Payne.

Teaching assistants can qualify as a cycle instructor through a new national initiative that promotes Bikeability, a new version of the cycling proficiency test. ADNFCR-2164-ID-19218041-ADNFCR
