Calder High School in Mytholmroyd, Wales, is hoping to attract would-be secondary school teachers to the profession with a two-day Taste for Teaching event.

It is hoped the initiative will give people considering a move to teaching a better insight into the day-to-day challenges and rewards the job has to offer, the Todmorden News reports.

On Thursday July 3rd and Friday July 4th up to 20 budding teachers will meet pupils and staff, watch lessons and get to deliver their own short classes.

Deputy headteacher Chris Sylge is keen to recruit more people into the trade: "It's never too late to think about a teaching career," she commented.

Many teachers first attend university where they expand their knowledge of a set subject or field before moving on to post-graduate teacher training.

Teaching assistants can take a less academic route into their job and recent research by the Open University noted that most of the parents questioned "placed great value on the contribution of teaching assistants".ADNFCR-2164-ID-19216901-ADNFCR
