A new online facility is helping to enable teachers to spend more time in the classroom and less time marking pupils' work, it has been revealed.

The Classroom Monitor has made teaching jobs more about helping pupils learn and less about form-filling, because the online tool provides a pupil assessment programme that allows queries to be answered almost at the click of a mouse, the Nottingham Evening Post reports.

Its success has resulted in Prime Principle, the company behind the technology, being listed among this year's finalists in the Evening Post's Business Link-sponsored Nottinghamshire Small Business of the Year Award.

"Ever conscious of the budgetary constraints and concerns of schools, we moved this product on-line, completely free of charge, during the summer holidays last year," the company's commercial director Chris Scarth told the publication.

People in teaching jobs across England are now using the system and it has helped Prime Principle to see its annual pre-tax profits reach around £300,000.

The Classroom Monitor online tool is a "comprehensive online tracking tool for record-keeping and report-writing", according to the company's website.

It is designed for use in conjunction with Foundation level to Key Stage 3 level courses in English schools.
