Essex 'dedicated to special needs education'

Councillors in Essex have said they are committed to special needs teaching in the county, according to Children and Young People Now.

Those looking for special needs jobs may be interested to read that an Essex county council representative has said the council is "determined to provide the highest quality care for all students and is working to provide a new centre in Wickford", reports the website.

However, the Continuum Care and Education Group has also submitted plans to convert offices at a business park in Wickford in an additional special needs facility, the website suggests.

As such, it states the council is concerned that there may be too many facilities in the Wickham area catering for students with special needs.

Should it be converted, the new school would offer around 30 spaces for students to fill.

A spokesperson for the council told the website: "Continuum Care and Education Services have an excellent track record in doing this and have been appointed and are currently securing appropriate premises."

Meanwhile, a report has revealed that the Creative Partnerships scheme has produced "striking results", states Children and Young People Now.

The study by Creativity, Culture and Education found that young people who participated in the programme performed better - on average - than their peers who had not taken part.
