Teaching assistant scales mountain for charity

A teaching assistant from Halifax climbed a mountain to help raise money for Guide Dogs for the Blind.

The Park Lane High School is presently involved in activities to fund the £5,000 cost of training a guide dog, reports the Evening Courier.

And Cath Skinner, a teaching assistant at the school, did her bit for the cause by scaling Ben Nevis in Scotland, the highest mountain in the UK.

She told the newspaper: "I found it hard. It was okay going up, but not going down.

"I did it because I was going to Scotland with my family."
Ms Skinner's efforts raised £180.

Ian Lewis, a teacher at the school, also raised money recently by running the London marathon in just over four and a half hours.

Pupils from the school made £800 in a charity bag pack last Christmas and 100 kids will take part two more events planned for June and July.

Guide Dogs for the Blind will open a new training centre for dogs in Atherton this summer.
