Graduates from universities all over the UK are being called up to work in inner city schools in Sheffield, it has been reported.

Individuals currently searching for teaching jobs in Yorkshire may be inspired by the news, which reveals that four schools have already signed up to the initiative to recruit more high-calibre teachers and teaching assistants.

Run by charity Teach First, the project is part of a wider scheme to get more graduates involved in primary and secondary school teaching all over the UK.

Councillor Andrew Sangar, cabinet member for children's services and lifelong learning, praised the initiative, commenting: "One of our key priorities is to raise attainment and aspiration in our young people and schemes like this will only serve to make this happen."

"We need to get high quality graduates into teaching and this is a direct way of us doing so and one which I am very happy to support," Mr Sangar added.

Firth Park Community Arts College is one institution that could benefit from new school staff, with two new recruits teaching maths and history from September.

According to the Teach First website, one in five 11-year-olds did not reach expected standards in English tests last year.
