Schools in Gloucestershire will be subject to a detailed review after a recorded rise in pupils needing special education.

In news that may interest special needs co-ordinators (SENCOs), a meeting of Gloucestershire Schools Forum recently allocated the money to projects aimed at improving approaches to special needs teaching and adapting the curriculum.

Jackie Hall, Conservative party education spokeswoman, commented on the initiative: "This money, which comes from the government, not council tax, will help us improve education for some of the most vulnerable children in Gloucestershire."

Councillor Hall added that the scheme would improve collaboration between special and mainstream schools and reduce the number of special needs pupils being excluded in the region.

The £285,000 investment may also include provision for extra classroom support assistants and special needs school staff.

In related news, a spokeswoman for Play England recently stated that computer games can help children to develop if played in moderation.
