Supermarket sweep for Northamptonshire school staff

Teachers at a Northamptonshire school have taken a novel approach to dealing with the declining numbers attending parents' evenings.

Mums and dads of pupils at Corby Business Academy will now be able to chat to teaching staff while doing their shopping at the local supermarket.

Due to launch on May 16th, the initiative will see teachers set up stalls in Morrisons so parents can discuss their child's education.

Although they need not make an appointment for this, they will need to take a swipe card for identification.

Principal of the school Andrew Campbell noted that the school had realised that parents "may find it difficult" to take time out of work during the week.

"So we decided it was necessary to take the academy out into the community, to make it as easy as possible for parents to discuss their child's education," he explained.

A survey conducted by the Training and Development Agency for Schools recently found that 53 per cent of parents want more interaction with their children's schools.
