Teaching profession 'fulfilling' for career-changers

Those who are looking to change careers in the face of the economic downturn could benefit from considering a teaching job, it has been noted.

Speaking to the Guardian, two forty-something men who recently moved from the City to the classroom mentioned the range of benefits they have encountered.

Both now have more time to spend with their family and gain more fulfilment from their new roles.

Kevin Watson was previously an investment banker before becoming a physics teacher.

"Anyone with a banking background is gold dust to the teaching profession," he was quoted by the news source as stating.

And maths teacher Geoff Haynes, who was formerly a financial director, told the paper that the move was "one of the best things I've ever done".

"I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a more secure career, or looking for a chance to pass on their knowledge to the next generation," he stated.

University leavers are now most likely to consider a career in teaching, according to statistics produced by High Fliers Research yesterday.
