A new scheme designed to enhance continuing professional development (CPD) for school staff is proving popular in Exeter, it has been reported.

According to the Express & Echo, West Exe Technology College in the city has recently been granted Teacher Learning Academy status, after enhancing the skills of those in teaching jobs through its programmes.

Speaking to the paper, the institution's headteacher Steve Maddern stated: "We are committed to helping our teachers take part in a programme of continuous professional development which benefits them, their peers and, most importantly of all, the children they teach."

School staff can gain professional recognition for taking part in the institution's training courses, which cover a range of subject areas.

Once choosing a topic, those taking part must conduct research, write up their findings and submit a final presentation.

Meanwhile, north-west England's Edge Hill University recently announced that it will be offering 92 extra teacher training places, after the Training and Development Agency for Schools granted it £800,000.
