There are a number of posts for school staff who want to become headteachers currently available in Gwynedd, it has emerged.

According to the Daily Post, one-fifth of primaries in the region are looking to appoint those in teaching jobs to a leadership post.

This amounts to a total of 11 positions being open in the region from September 2009, with applicants all required to hold the National Professional Qualification for Headship.

Head of Gwynedd Council's Schools Service Dewi Jones told the news source that the county is keen to recruit permanent headteachers to all of its schools.

"As is the case for local education authorities across Wales, Gwynedd is experiencing difficulties in recruiting primary school headteachers, and we are eager to secure the appointment of as many high quality headteachers as possible," he stated.

At the beginning of the year, Education Data Services released new figures indicating that a growing number of headteacher vacancies are opening up across England and Wales, with 2,500 advertised during 2007-08.
