Teaching staff on hand to watch secondary pupils build a business

Teaching staff may well be able to stage their own version of The Apprentice as part of an initiative to encourage secondary schools to nurture entrepreneurship.

Thomson Local has joined forces with entrepreneur Kanya King, who founded the Mobo Awards, to teach pupils how to get ahead in business.

Entitled Build a Business the initiative will enable young people to benefit from practical expertise as well as gain financial support to get their business dreams off the ground.

Ms King explained that the project is designed to encourage young people to experience the cut and thrust of setting up a business and at the same time benefit their community.

She commented: "The idea is to get over 50 schools involved in submitting proposals to build a local business that adds value to the community.

"It is about helping to support and inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs."

Kanya King is a patron of the Horniman Museum and set up Net Women, which is an organisation designed to serve the interests of women who work in the media.
