Education recruitment 'receives a boost'

Education recruitment has been given a boost following news that a record number of people attended an event for prospective teachers.

More than 1,500 people turned up to the Training and Development Agency for Schools' (TDA) Train to Teach event on Friday, which was held at London's Science Museum.

This was a 50 per cent increase on the number that attended the same day last year, noted chief executive of the body Graham Holley.

And this appears to be following a general trend for interest in teaching jobs, with TDA statistics indicating that 10.7 per cent more people have applied for training this year.

Due to continue across the country until March 13th, the event will take in visitors at ThinkTank in Birmingham and The Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester.

On Friday, Train to Teach saw 200 people expressing an interest taking up teaching jobs in the priority fields of maths and science.

Specialist seminars for these subjects held during the day recorded full attendance, stated Mr Holley.
