New initiative improves CPD and confidence of school staff, says report

Continuing professional development (CPD) for those in teaching jobs has been positively boosted by the establishment of the Teacher Learning Academy, it has been stated.

This was set up by the General Teaching Council (GTC) for England in a bid to help teachers share best practice to help achieve professional excellence.

"The TLA supports teachers to make small changes that have a significant and lasting impact in the classroom," stated head of professional learning at the GTC Sean Morgan.

And according to a report issued today by the National Foundation for Education Research, its development has led to an improvement in the approach and structure for CPD.

Furthermore, it was found to improve the confidence and effectiveness of participating teachers in the classroom.

And pupil motivation and enjoyment, alongside progress and achievement, were all found to have been boosted by these members of school staff.

In other news, views about teacher and school accountability are due to be gauged by the GTC following its launch of a survey on the topic last month.
