Local education bosses in West Cumbria have opened up a consultation on an £80 million scheme to rebuild schools in the area.

Booklets outlining the plans and asking for views on the initial proposals are being sent to around 30,000 households in the area.

The construction programme forms part of the government's Building Schools for the Future (BSF) initiative, which aims to modernise secondary schools throughout the country.

An initial £80 million will be spent on six schools in Cumbria, with a further £100 million to follow for the remaining sites in the region.

On the back of each Can you help energise learning in West Cumbria? booklet, there is a Have your Say section that can be completed and returned by post.

In related news, Nottingham's BSF programme has beaten off competition from five competitors and won the Local Education Partnership of the Year award, presented in London last night (November 12th).
