Linking with a school in Africa has helped an Exeter college win an award, it has been reported.

The Express & Echo claims that the West of England College for pupils with visual impairments is only the second special needs school in the region to win the International School Award.

Securing the accolade was partly due to the links it has established with Hill Preparatory School in Uganda, one of the first schools in the country to cater for young people with learning disabilities.

Pupils from the two schools worked on a project together where they learnt about the origins and importance of food, claims the local newspaper.

Awarded by the British Council, the prize is given to schools that fulfil a number of criteria, including having the majority of students involved in international projects and collaborative work with a number of partners overseas.
