Teenagers in the Nottingham area have given the thumbs-up to the government's new practical learning programme, it has been reported.

According to the Nottingham Evening Post, pupils on the construction and built environment diploma at Hadden Park High School in Bilborough are enjoying their course and progressing well.

Daniel Leverton, a 15-year-old in the final year of school, told the newspaper the course had given him a chance to see what working life is like for those in the plumbing and construction industry.

"Doing hands-on work is much better than being in a classroom. I find we learn much more," he noted.

Studying for the diplomas involves more practical tasks than GCSEs, in addition to work experience placements in the students' area of interest.

Pupils who complete a diploma then have the option of studying for a higher diploma, NVQ or traditional A-levels.
