The trust school model is becoming increasingly popular as a further 114 schools and their partner organisations are given the green light to join the government's programme.

Businesses and other groups in discussion to deliver the new round of schools include Marks & Spencer, Sainsbury's and the Woodlands Trust.

Speaking at the Mutuo education conference yesterday (October 22nd) in London, schools secretary Ed Balls said 25 of these schools would be following a cooperative model.

He explained that this means parents, teachers, support staff and pupils can all get involved in the running of their school.

The move demonstrates that shared responsibility can work at a national - as well as local - level, he added.

In related news, the government has announced details of a new pilot scheme aiming to help school leavers in 11 selected areas engage with education or training.
