Teachers' tech programme unveiled

A new £5.6 million scheme will promote new learning methods by educating teachers about new technology.

Devised by the Open University and the government's technology partner e-skills UK, Vital will be officially launched in January 2010.

The programme's aim is to foster continued professional development for teachers, helping them to keep up with increasingly technologically-savvy students.

Teachers specialising in IT will learn more about how computing is used in business and to drive innovation, with some learning taking place at partner companies.

Those teaching other subjects will be kept up to date with new developments and encouraged to promote IT as a learning tool, explains e-skills.

Open to sixth form an schools across England, interested education staff are invited to register ahead through Vital's website.
